It's not about railroads this time! John Taibi will share about the Great Race by automobile in 1912!
The Great Race has been touted as the most significant automobile race ever run. The largest trophy ever presented to the winner of any sporting event - auto race or otherwise - went to the winner of The Great Race. The race began in New York City during the winter of 1912, and the course took cars from Italy, Germany, France, and the United States across America, across the Pacific Ocean, through Siberia, China, and Manchuria, and on into Europe with the finish line at Paris, France.
How did automobiles manage to do this, how did the men manning the machines cope with the rigors of this race around the world, and who won The Great Race? Come to the Morrisville Library on Friday April 18th at 6:00pm, to find out the answers to these questions, and be enthralled by John Taibi's enthusiastic description of how the race around the world unfolded.
